let go and sleep lightly
tangled in dirtied sheets
the creases just above your feet
you close your eyes and drift off.
and in your dreams are ghosts
willowy girls in white dresses that float
they head toward the sea
jumping in one by one.
the screams echo out through your ears
your sweaty fists
and violet wrists
those faces bringing back your fears.
eyes on the ceiling
your body contorted on your bed
your teeth bite your lip
and you're dripping red.
a small gasp
and your chest sighs and heaves
the night is cold
your slumber broken
the faces leave.
with the light comes tomorrow
stinging sun attacks your flesh
you sit up and breathe
chest hollow
